UK Top 10 Games: 22nd July 2013

Wow! Just when you thought The Last of Us couldn't get much more impressive, it goes and takes the top spot for a sixth week over in the UK! Only two other games have managed such a feat (FIFA 12, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2), but prior to this week no platform-exclusive titles had done so. Congratulations The Last of Us, you are making history!

Outside of The Last of Us' domination, it's been a relatively quiet week in terms of games.The only new entry was Dynasty Warriors 8, which comes in surprisingly high at No. 5. Whoever says the series has no fans in the UK, need only look at this week's chart to be proven wrong.
Meanwhile, Max Payne 3 managed an impressive leap - from No. 26 last week, to No. 7 - due to price drops from many UK retailers.

UK Top 10 Games: 16th July 2013

This week, PS3-exclusive The Last of Us continues to amaze as it holds the top spot for the fifth week in a row! This would be an achievement for a multi-platform title but when you add in the fact that The Last of Us is available on just one console it's even more impressive. The title was released in the UK back in June, to rave reviews praising it as one of the PS3's best games.

There was only one new entry in the Top 10 this week, and that was Mario and Luigi: Dream Team Bros. for the Nintendo 3DS. The title managed a respectable debut at No. 3, and meant that Nintendo had two titles in the Top 3 (with Animal Crossing: New Leaf at No. 2). Now if they could only sort out their struggling Wii U, Nintendo would be at the top of their game right now!

While there were no new entries in the Top 10 this week, Aliens: Colonial Marines did manage to re-enter the top 10 and jump 12 places in the process. Thanks to a price cut, the game jumped from No. 22 to No. 10, meaning the UK is slowly filling up with disappointed gamers if those reviews are anything to go by!

Finally, outside the Top 10 the new add-on for Civilisation V - Civilisation V: Brave New World - came in at No. 39.

UK Top 10 Games: 17th June 2013

This week the much-hyped PS3 exclusive, The Last Of Us, goes straight to No. 1 with the third biggest launch of the year (behind Tomb Raider and Bioshock Infinite). It's also the first Sony exclusive to top the UK charts since the Vita's launch when Uncharted: Golden Abyss came in at No. 1. It pushes last week's No. 1 - GRID 2 - down two places to No. 3.

But, it wasn't the only new entry this week, with the 3DS's Animal Crossing: New Leaf also making a strong debut at No. 2 - making it the biggest 3DS launch yet for a non-Mario game.

The final new entry of the week is less of a big name, with Rugby Challenge 2: Lions Tour Edition making a respectable debut at No. 12.

UK Top 10 Games: 25th February 2013

There were two major releases out in the UK this week in the form of Crysis 3 and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, but it was Crysis that managed to steal the top spot leaving Metal Gear settling for No. 2, and sending last week's No. 1 Aliens: Colonial Marines down four places to No. 5.

The only other entry into the Top 10 this week comes from Hitman: Absolution which re-enters at No. 10. Outside the Top 10 however there's a new entry from Persona 4 Golden, the critically acclaimed Playstation Vita exclusive which makes a respectable debut at No. 32.

UK Top 10 Games: 18th February 2013

This week, despite bad reviews, Aliens: Colonial Marines manages to take the top spot knocking Dead Space 3 down one place to No. 2. The game has been in development hell for the last six years, but still hopes were high that it could be the first truly excellent Aliens game. Aliens fans will just have to keep waiting I suppose...

Elsewhere, Assassin's Creed III re-enters the Top 10 climbing from No. 12 to No. 6 and Halo 4 manages a similar jump climbing from No. 13 to No. 10.

This week's biggest drop came from Studio Ghibli and Level 5's Ni No Kuni which after a strong debut falls 19 places this week from No. 6 to No. 25. Still the title seems to be doing fairly well for a Playstation-exclusive.

There were no other new entries this week, however the DS's Super Scribblenauts does re-enter the Top 40 at No. 29 due to a price drop - it can be found for under £10 at some retailers. So if you're running out of things to play on Nintendo's last-gen handheld, that could be a bargain to see you through for a while.

UK Top 10 Games: 26th November 2012

Agent 47, you have failed. Despite a big release this week in the form of Hitman: Absolution, Black Ops II has remained at the top spot for the second week running. This leaves Hitman settling for the No. 2 spot which is still a respectable achievement.

The only other new entry in the Top 10 this week is Lego Lord of the Rings which enters the chart at No. 6. The game will no doubt see a rise in sales mid-December though, when the first film in the upcoming The Hobbit series is released.
While there were only 2 new entries in the Top 10 this week, many others entered the chart outside the Top 10 - more specifically, near the bottom of the chart. Indeed, it was an underwhelming debut for three of this week's new games. The first of which was Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two which entered the chart at No. 34. Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse was right behind it at No. 35 and finally, a surprisingly low debut for Sony-Exclusive Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale which entered the chart at No. 38.

Both Epic Mickey 2 and Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse made it onto our list of predictions of 5 games that wouldn't sell this Christmas. To read the list in full click here!

UK Top 10 Games: 19th November 2012

Call of Duty at No. 1? What a mad world we live in! The latest game in the insanely successful "COD" franchise - Black Ops II - storms in at No. 1 with the biggest game launch of the year and the 4th biggest of all time! The game knocks last week's top game - Halo 4 - down one place to No. 2.

But Black Ops II wasn't the only release this week. This week's other new entries start with The Sims 3: Seasons which debuts at No. 9.

Meanwhile Call of Duty's handheld counterpart, Black Ops II: Declassified on the Playstation Vita makes a surprisingly good debut at No. 16 - making it the second biggest Vita game of the year. Unfortunately for Vita owners the game has actually received very poor reviews, meaning it may not be the system seller that fans and Sony hoped it would be.

This week also saw the first of Sony's "Wonderbooks" for Playstation Move. The first one takes place in the wizarding world of Harry Potter and is titled Book of Spells. It enters the chart at No. 25.
Codemaster's F1 Race Stars is right below at No. 26. It was another game that received disappointing reviews, with many saying the superior kart racer was in fact, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. Sadly for that game the good word failed to spread as it makes a disappointing debut at No. 27.

UK Top 10 Games: 13th November 2012

Much to everyone's surprise, that little game known as Halo 4 managed to storm in at No. 1 this week! It knocks last week's number one - the equally big Assassin's Creed III - down one place to No. 2.

Elsewhere in the Top 10, Borderlands 2 sees a large increase in sales shooting 11 places from No. 19 to No. 8. Meanwhile, it seems as if some bad word of mouth may be spreading as Medal of Honor: Warfighter - previously one of the most-hyped shooters of the year - drops another 4 places this week to No. 10. The game was released to mixed/negative reviews just a few weeks ago.

It seems that few publishers dared to release their games on the same week as Microsoft's giant franchise, meaning there's only one other new entry in this week's chart, which just so happens to be from one of rival company Sony's biggest franchises. LittleBigPlanet Karting received mixed reviews upon release, and it's these reviews along with a general lack of hype that may have caused its underwhelming debut at No. 24.

FIFA 13 Dominates the UK Top 10

To nobody's surprise, FIFA 13 has shot in at No. 1 in the UK Games Charts, selling more than 1 million copies in its opening week. The sporting sim knocks last week's No. 1 - Borderlands 2 - down one place to No. 2.

But FIFA 13 wasn't the only new release this week. World of Warcraft expansion Mists of Pandaria debuts at No. 4, while Ubisoft's Rocksmith - a Guitar Hero-like game that uses a real guitar - enters at No. 7.
Meanwhile outside the top 10, Dead or Alive 5 comes in at No. 11, and Angry Birds comes to home consoles for the first time in Angry Birds Trilogy on XBOX 360, PS3 and 3DS at No. 16.
Finally, Gran Turismo 5: Academy Edition enters the charts at No. 17.

Borderlands 2 Shoots Down Sleeping Dogs!

Borderlands 2 has knocked Sleeping Dogs from the UK No. 1 spot, pushing it down to No. 4 - while also becoming the biggest game launch of the year so far. While this prestigious title will likely belong to Black Ops 2 by the end of the year - it's still a big deal.

What's even more impressive is that the original Borderlands peaked at No. 7 when it was released in 2009 - the sequel's launch week has outdone the original 4 to 1.

But Borderlands 2 wasn't the only big release this week. With Summer officially over, game publishers have decided to start releasing games again! Other new entries this week include F1 2012 at No. 2, and Pro Evolution Soccer at No. 3. The football sim has struggled against the rival FIFA series for quite some time now, and while this is a strong debut, it seems likely it will be beaten once again this year.

The final new entry this week was LittleBigPlanet Vita. It's the biggest debut for a non-launch week Vita title yet, and according to all sources it's a great game - so if your Vita's gathering dust then this could be for you.

UK Top 10 Games: 21st August 2012

This week Square Enix's Sleeping Dogs swooped in at No. 1. The title, once known as True Crime: Hong Kong, became a somewhat unexpected critical success - this and today's strong chart debut may see Sleeping Dogs become a new franchise for Square.

But Sleeping Dogs did have some competition in the form of New Super Mario Bros. 2 for the 3DS. Despite being released on just one platform, the game manages to debut just below Sleeping Dogs at No. 2. These two new entries knock last week's No. 1, London 2012: The Official Video Game down two places to No. 3.

There are no new entries this week, however Lego Harry Potter: Years 5-7 does re-enter the top 10 due to a price cut.

UK Top 10 Games: 13th August 2012

With the annual shortage of new games in full swing, this week's top 10 remains largely unchanged. Olympics fever is evidently still at large with London 2012: The Official Video Game at No. 1 for the third week. The rest of the top 4 also remains unchanged with Lego Batman 2, Mario & Sonic, and Batman: Arkham City all holding their places at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 respectively.

UK Top 10 Games: 30th July 2012

This week with the Olympics now in full swing, Sega's London 2012: The Official Video Game takes the top spot, knocking last week's No. 1, Lego Batman 2 down one place to No. 2.

But the official tie-in wasn't the only Olympics game benefiting since the sporting event began. Sega's other title, Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games has also climbed up the Top 10. It's shot up 5 places this week from it's position at No. 8 last week to No. 3 this week.

There are no new entries in the Top 10 this week, however Nintendo's odd crossover between Pokemon and Japanese series Nobunaga's Ambition, titled Pokemon Conquest, did make a respectable debut at No. 17. The game may be the original DS's final good exclusive so if you're yet to invest in a new handheld it may be worth a look.

UK Top 10 Games: 23rd July 2012

UK summers are famous for two things. Rain, and a severe drought of videogame releases. What this means is usually one game will take the top spot and rule there like a tyrant for weeks. Last year it was Zumba Fitness, this year the role seems to have gone to Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes. The game has been at No. 1 for 5 weeks now! And the release of The Dark Knight Rises must be spreading even more Batman fever as this week Batman: Arkham City re-enters the top 10 at No. 7.

There was one new entry this week however and that was Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance. It comes in at No. 6.

UK Top 10 Games: 25th June 2012

This week, Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes has taken the top spot, knocking FIFA 12 down a spot to No. 2. The game features not just Batman this time, but also Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and loads more. That along with having Lego men that actually speak and an original story, makes this a must for comic fans.

Lego Batman was the only new entry this week, but there were a couple of re-entries with Skyrim climbing 15 places back into the top 10 to No. 8. And also FIFA Street which climbs 3 places to No. 10.

Boy, the UK sure does love Football doesn't it?

With Euro 2012 in full swing, football fever has taken over the UK once again. FIFA 12 has jumped back to the top spot after a few weeks off - and its worth noting that the game hasn't left the top 5 since its release last year.

New entries in the top 10 this week are Suda 51's Lollipop Chainsaw which comes in surprisingly high at No. 4, and Diablo 3 which is re-entering the top 10, climbing 14 places from No. 22 last week to No. 6 this week.

Outside the top 10, the only new entry is Gravity Rush on Playstation Vita which comes in at No. 11.

UK Top 10 Games: 16th April 2012

This week FIFA Street takes back the top spot, after Kinect Star Wars receives a 50% drop in sales - falling 3 places to No. 4.

Apart from that the classic annual summer drought of games seems to be kicking in early. There are no new entries in the top 10, and just one new entry in the top 40 - Nintendo's Wii RPG, Pandora's Tower, which comes in at No. 38.

UK Top 10 Games: 10th April 2012

This week Kinect Star Wars becomes the first Kinect-Required videogame to top the UK Game Charts, knocking last week's No. 1, FIFA Street down to No. 2.

Unfortunately, the game has received very mixed/negative reviews making Star Wars fans such as myself very disappointed. Although, I did kind of expect the bad reviews once I saw the inclusion of a "Galactic Dance-Off Mode."

Skyrim also re-enters the top 10 at No. 10, while SSX climbs 3 places to No. 7 due to a price drop.

Other new entries outside the top 10 are, The Devil May Cry HD Collection at No. 18, and Kinect Rush: A Disney Pixar Adventure at No. 32.

UK Top 10 Games: 27th February 2012

The Playstation Vita launches and scores the top 2 places as well! Uncharted: Golden Abyss is in at No. 1, followed closely by EA's FIFA Football which follows at No. 2.

They knock last week's No. 1, UFC 3, down 2 places to No. 3.

Rayman Origins also sees a boost in sales as the Vita version is released. It climbs an impressive 31 places up to No. 5.

The other top 10 new entry is FPS reboot, Syndicate which debuts at No. 7.

Outside the top 10, other Vita launch titles dent the top 40: WipEout 2048 is at No. 11, Ridge Racer at No. 28, Virtua Tennis 4: World Tour Edition at No. 30, and Everybody's Golf is at No. 32.

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 also enters the top 40 at No. 33 - boosted by the Vita version.

Other new entries are the Wii's, The Last Story at No. 15. Fallout: New Vegas - Ultimate Edition (which features all the DLC of the original NV) at No. 17, the PS3's Jak and Daxter Trilogy is at No. 27, and finally, Sega's new IP, Binary Domain debuts at No. 35.

UK Games Top 10: 20th February 2012

This week THQ's UFC Undisputed 3 claims the top spot. Something I was happy about, because it would be a shame to see THQ go bust. More No. 1's for them can only be a good thing!

It knocks last week's No. 1, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning all the way down to No. 12!

Meanwhile, a bombardment of special offers sees Modern Warfare 3, Mario & Sonic 2012, and Skylanders climb the charts.
